How to fly to Socotra through Jeddah, book Yemenia Airways tickets, coordinate your visa, plan the airport transfer and prepare for possible schedule changes
Last updated: 9 July 2026
Reviewed by: TourYemen Flights and Operations Team
Reaching Socotra is different from booking a normal international flight. The island has limited air connections, seats are not normally available through standard online booking websites, and the flight must be coordinated with your Socotra visa, tour dates and local arrival arrangements.
For most international travelers in 2026, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is the primary gateway to Socotra. Yemenia Airways operates the route on a limited schedule. TourYemen currently checks the active booking system for each requested departure because selected Tuesday and Thursday flights may appear depending on the travel date searched. TourYemen confirms the suitable flight pair before confirming any Socotra tour, visa or international connection.
The former charter route from Abu Dhabi was suspended in January 2026. Travelers should therefore not rely on older websites that still present Abu Dhabi as the normal gateway to Socotra. Public schedules and flight numbers can change, so each departure must be reconfirmed before international connections are finalized.
This guide explains how to get to Socotra, how to book Socotra flights through TourYemen, what the journey through Jeddah involves, the expected ticket price and baggage allowance, and what to do if the flight schedule changes.

The return flight includes an approximately one-hour refueling stop at Riyan Airport in Mukalla. Passengers remain seated on the aircraft and do not complete immigration procedures.
Current TourYemen tour pattern
Based on confirmed Yemenia Airways flight pairs. The classic Socotra program may follow a Tuesday-to-Tuesday or Thursday-to-Thursday, eight-day/seven-night pattern when that flight pair is available. Selected dates may require a different confirmed pattern.
Standard trip duration
Depends on the confirmed flight pair. The common Socotra program remains eight days and seven nights when matched with a Tuesday-to-Tuesday or Thursday-to-Thursday schedule.
Jeddah departure terminal
Current departure terminal reference: Terminal N, subject to final ticket confirmation.
Online booking
Socotra tickets are not normally available through standard public online flight-booking systems.
Estimated round-trip ticket price
Approximately USD 850 to USD 950 per traveler, subject to the departure date, seat availability and final airline fare.
Current TourYemen baggage reference
30 kilograms of checked baggage and 7 kilograms of cabin baggage. The allowance printed on the issued ticket remains final.
Socotra visa
Required in advance for all non-GCC passport holders.
Saudi entry or transit permission
Travelers with hand luggage only can normally use the current airside transfer without entering Saudi Arabia. Travelers with checked baggage normally need Saudi entry permission because they must pass immigration, collect their luggage and transfer landside to Terminal N.
Drone permit
USD 100 per drone, paid directly to customs upon arrival at Socotra Airport. Advance notice to TourYemen is required.
Abu Dhabi route
Currently suspended.
Recommended Jeddah connection
Arrive in Jeddah at least one day before the Socotra flight whenever possible.
How to Get to Socotra in 2026
The most practical route for international tourists is:
International departure city - Jeddah - Socotra
Travelers first book an international flight to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. TourYemen then arranges the separate Yemenia Airways flight between Jeddah and Socotra.
The international flight and the Yemenia flight are normally separate reservations. The transfer procedure in Jeddah depends on whether the traveler has hand luggage only or checked baggage.
Travelers with hand luggage only can normally remain in the airside transit area and use the current Saudia-operated bus from the main terminal to Terminal N. Under this arrangement, they do not pass Saudi immigration or collect baggage.
Travelers with checked baggage normally need to enter Saudi Arabia, pass immigration, collect their luggage, clear customs, take a taxi to Terminal N and check in again for the Socotra flight.
Because the two flights are normally issued separately, the airline bringing the traveler to Jeddah is generally not responsible for a missed Yemenia connection.
Jeddah to Socotra Flights
Jeddah is currently the principal international gateway used by TourYemen for Socotra tours.
The route is operated by Yemenia Airways on a limited schedule. TourYemen checks the active booking system for each requested departure because available operating days can vary by travel date.
2026 Jeddah-Socotra Flight Schedule
Outbound Flight - Tuesday
| Travel Day | Flight | Departure | Arrival | Scheduled Duration |
| Tuesday | IY-525 | Jeddah 11:00 | Socotra 14:00 | 3 hours |
| Thursday | IY-525 | Jeddah 11:00 | Socotra 14:00 | 3 hours |
Return Flight - Tuesday
| Travel Day | Flight | Departure | Arrival | Scheduled Duration |
| Tuesday | IY-526 | Socotra 15:00 | Jeddah 19:00 | 4 hours |
| Thursday | IY-526 | Socotra 15:00 | Jeddah 19:00 | 4 hours |
All times are local and remain subject to final airline confirmation. Travelers should follow the schedule printed on their issued Yemenia Airways ticket and TourYemen's final pre-departure instructions.
Is the Jeddah to Socotra Flight Direct?
The Tuesday and Thursday outbound flights from Jeddah to Socotra operates as a direct service under the current schedule.
The return flight from Socotra to Jeddah includes an approximately one-hour technical fuel stop at Riyan Airport in Mukalla.
Technical Fuel Stop at Riyan Airport in Mukalla
Because Socotra Airport does not currently have the aircraft-refueling infrastructure required for the return service, the flight stops at Riyan Airport in Mukalla for approximately one hour.
Passengers remain seated on the aircraft during the stop. They do not enter the terminal, collect their baggage or complete immigration procedures in Mukalla.
This is a technical refueling stop and should not be confused with a normal transit or entry into Mainland Yemen.
How Long Is the Flight?
The outbound flight from Jeddah to Socotra is scheduled for approximately three hours.
The return journey is scheduled for approximately four hours because it includes the one-hour technical fuel stop at Riyan Airport.
Travelers should also allow additional time for check-in, document inspection, immigration, security screening and baggage collection.
What Day Do Flights to Socotra Operate?
TourYemen's current standard Socotra tours follow a Tuesday-to-Tuesday or Thursday schedule.
The outbound flight departs Jeddah at 11:00 AM on Tuesday and Thursday arrive in Socotra at 2:00 PM.
The return flight departs Socotra at 3:00 PM the following Tuesday and Thursday and arrives in Jeddah at 7:00 PM after the technical fuel stop in Mukalla.
This schedule creates a standard Socotra trip of eight days and seven nights.
Travelers cannot normally choose arbitrary arrival and departure days because the tour dates must match the limited weekly service.
Flight times can still change. Do not finalize non-changeable international connections until TourYemen has reconfirmed the departure and issued ticket information.
Are Abu Dhabi to Socotra Flights Operating?
The previous charter flights between Abu Dhabi and Socotra were suspended in early January 2026.
Travelers should not rely on old Socotra articles that still describe Abu Dhabi as the active gateway.
Until TourYemen receives confirmed operational information that the route has resumed, travelers should consider the Abu Dhabi to Socotra route suspended.
A flight-search website may still display the old route, historical schedule or cached fare. That does not confirm that seats are currently operating or available.
Can You Fly from Dubai to Socotra?
There is no confirmed regular direct Dubai-Socotra service currently used by TourYemen.
Travelers departing from Dubai generally need to fly first to Jeddah and then continue on the separately arranged Yemenia flight.
Do not confuse:
- Dubai with Abu Dhabi
- A flight-search result with an issued ticket
- A historical charter with a currently operating scheduled flight
TourYemen confirms the actual available route before collecting payment for the Socotra ticket.
Can You Fly from Cairo to Socotra?
There is no normal public nonstop Cairo-Socotra service that travelers should expect to purchase through a standard online booking platform.
Routes involving Cairo may sometimes be arranged through Mainland Yemen, such as Aden, Mukalla or another Yemenia operating point. These journeys are more complex because they may involve:
- A separate Mainland Yemen visa
- Security approvals
- An overnight stay
- Additional domestic flights
- More than one airport
- Changes to the approved itinerary
- A higher total ticket cost
For most Socotra-only travelers, the Jeddah route is simpler.
Travelers combining Mainland Yemen and Socotra should provide TourYemen with the complete itinerary before any visa or flight application begins.
Flights from Mainland Yemen to Socotra
Domestic flights may operate between Socotra and selected airports in Yemen, particularly:
- Riyan Airport serving Mukalla
- Al Ghaydah Airport
- Aden, depending on the current operating schedule
- These routes are not necessarily suitable for a traveler holding only a Socotra-specific itinerary.
- A route through Mainland Yemen may require:
- Mainland Yemen visa arrangements
- Security clearances
- Approved airport routing
- Local ground arrangements
- Additional hotel nights
- Separate flight tickets
TourYemen confirms whether a mainland connection is practical for the traveler's nationality, visa and complete itinerary.
Which Airline Flies to Socotra?
Yemenia Airways is the principal airline used for TourYemen's current Socotra flight arrangements.
Even when the flight is operated by Yemenia, it may not appear reliably on:
- Google Flights
- Skyscanner
- Expedia
- Booking websites
- International airline applications
- Public Yemenia booking searches
The absence of an online fare does not necessarily mean that the route is unavailable.
The presence of a fare does not necessarily mean the seat can be issued.
TourYemen must check the reservation through the applicable Yemenia booking channel.
How to Book Flights to Socotra
Socotra flight booking should begin only after the traveler selects a suitable TourYemen departure date.
The normal process is:
- Choose your preferred Socotra tour date.
- Send TourYemen your nationality and passport expiry date.
- TourYemen checks whether the flight schedule matches the requested tour.
- Send a clear passport scan.
- Send the required passport-style photograph for the visa.
- TourYemen checks current seat availability.
- TourYemen confirms the current ticket price.
- Pay the flight ticket and visa fee in advance.
- TourYemen requests or confirms the reservation.
- The Socotra visa and flight details are coordinated.
- The Yemenia ticket is issued.
- TourYemen sends the ticket and booking information.
- The scanned Socotra visa is sent before departure.
- TourYemen provides the final terminal, check-in and arrival instructions.
- The flight is reconfirmed before travel.
Seat availability is not secured merely by sending an inquiry.
A booking is confirmed only after the required payment has been received and TourYemen confirms that the ticket has been issued.
Can You Book Socotra Flights Online?
Socotra flights are not normally booked in the same way as standard international airline tickets.
Travelers booking with TourYemen should not attempt to purchase the Socotra sector independently through an unverified website.
The flight must remain aligned with:
- Your passport
- Your Socotra visa
- Your tour dates
- Your Jeddah arrival
- Your Jeddah departure
- The local airport arrangements
Your operator's passenger list
TourYemen arranges the Yemenia reservation and sends the ticket after issuance.
Why Do Some Flight Websites Show Different Information?
Flight-search and tracking websites can display:
- Historical routes
- Old charter schedules
- Reused flight numbers
- Incomplete connecting routes
- Flights without sellable inventory
- Incorrect departure days
- Estimated rather than confirmed times
The most reliable booking information is:
1. The current airline reservation.
2. The issued ticket.
3. TourYemen's latest operating confirmation.
Documents Required to Book a Socotra Flight
TourYemen normally requires:
- Clear color passport scan
- Contact details
- Emergency-contact details
The passport used for the flight must be the same passport used for the Socotra visa application.
Tell TourYemen immediately if you:
- Renew your passport
- Replace a lost passport
- Change your legal name
- Change your international route
- Change the planned arrival date
- Change the planned departure date
A passport-number change may require both the flight and visa information to be updated.
Socotra Visa and Flight Coordination
The visa and flight should not be treated as two unrelated reservations.
The Socotra visa is connected to:
- The traveler's passport
- The approved travel period
- The flight route
- The tour itinerary
- The local operator
All non-GCC passport holders require an approved Socotra visa before departure. GCC passport holders are exempt, but foreign residents of GCC countries are not automatically exempt.
Travelers should complete the visa process through TourYemen before attempting to travel.
Read the Socotra Visa Guide for complete information about visa eligibility, GCC exemptions, required documents, the USD 200 visa fee, processing timeline, visa validity, the scanned visa copy and the original visa at Socotra Airport.
How Much Do Flights to Socotra Cost?
The Jeddah-Socotra round-trip ticket generally costs approximately USD 850 to USD 950 per traveler.
The final price depends on:
- Travel date
- Seat availability
- Current airline fare
- Ticketing deadline
- Exchange-rate or payment costs
- Any applicable airline or issuance charges
TourYemen confirms the exact price before payment.
Is the Socotra Flight Included in the Tour Price?
Unless the selected tour page specifically says otherwise, the Jeddah-Socotra ticket is normally separate from the land-tour price.
The traveler should expect separate costs for:
- International flight to Jeddah
- Yemenia flight between Jeddah and Socotra
- Socotra visa
- Saudi visa or entry permission when required
- Jeddah hotel
- Travel insurance
- Personal expenses
Are One-Way Tickets Available?
Travelers should not assume that a one-way Socotra ticket is available.
The normal tourism arrangement is based on a confirmed return journey. One-way travel can create problems involving:
- Immigration
- Visa dates
- Proof of onward travel
- Limited seat availability
- Local operating approvals
TourYemen must check one-way requests individually.
When Should You Book Socotra Flights?
Book as early as possible after your tour date is confirmed.
The route has limited capacity, and seats may fill well before departure.
Three months or more before travel
Select your preferred tour date and send your initial inquiry.
Eight weeks before travel
Finalize your passport documents, flight plan and payment arrangements.
At least three to four weeks before travel
All visa documents should already have been submitted.
Before purchasing non-changeable international flights
Obtain TourYemen's confirmation that the Socotra schedule, seat plan, operating day and return routing are suitable.
Do not assume that a Tuesday flight, Thursday flight or specific return stop is available until TourYemen confirms the active reservation for your requested date
Last-minute bookings may be possible, but they should not be expected.
Connecting Through Jeddah for a Socotra Flight
Are the International and Socotra Flights on the Same Ticket?
Usually not.
The traveler normally purchases:
- An international ticket to Jeddah.
- A separately issued Yemenia ticket from Jeddah to Socotra.
Because these are separate tickets:
- The first airline may not transfer your baggage to Yemenia.
- The first airline may not assist if you miss the Socotra flight
Yemenia may not rebook you free of charge if your international flight is delayed.
You may need to enter Saudi Arabia.
You must allow enough time to move between terminals.
This is a self-transfer, not automatically a protected airline connection.
Which Jeddah Terminal Is Used for Socotra Flights?
TourYemen’s current Socotra flight arrangement normally departs from Terminal N, also known as the North Terminal. Travelers must reconfirm the terminal using their issued ticket and TourYemen’s final departure instructions, at King Abdulaziz International Airport.
The correct transfer process depends on whether the traveler has hand luggage only or checked baggage.
Connecting with Hand Luggage Only
Traveling with hand luggage only provides the simplest and fastest connection in Jeddah.
Under the current airport arrangement, a Saudia-operated airside bus transfers eligible connecting travelers from the main terminal to Terminal N.
Travelers using this airside transfer remain inside the airport transit area, do not pass through Saudi immigration, do not collect checked baggage and do not normally require a Saudi entry visa for the transfer.
For travelers heading to Socotra in 2026, traveling with hand luggage only can significantly simplify the Jeddah connection.
The availability of the airside bus and the exact transfer procedure should still be reconfirmed before travel because airport and airline procedures can change.
Connecting with Checked Baggage
Travelers with checked baggage must normally enter Saudi Arabia before continuing to Terminal N.
The normal transfer process is:
- Follow the airport signs or take the airport train toward Arrivals and Baggage Claim.
- Ensure that you have the appropriate Saudi visa or entry permission when required for your nationality.
- Pass through Saudi immigration. The procedure normally takes approximately 30 minutes, but it can take longer during busy periods.
- Collect your checked baggage.
- Pass through customs.
- Take a taxi from the main terminal to Terminal N.
- Check in again for the Yemenia Airways flight to Socotra.
Do not assume that your international airline will transfer checked baggage automatically to Yemenia Airways.
Unless the baggage tag clearly shows Socotra Airport, airport code SCT, as the final destination, plan to collect and recheck your luggage in Jeddah.
Do You Need a Saudi Visa to Connect to Socotra?
Travelers using the current hand-luggage-only airside transfer do not normally enter Saudi Arabia and do not normally require a Saudi entry visa for that transfer.
Travelers with checked baggage normally need the appropriate Saudi visa or entry permission because they must pass immigration, collect their luggage, clear customs and transfer landside to Terminal N.
TourYemen does not issue Saudi visas. Every traveler should confirm the current Saudi entry requirements for their passport before booking the international connection.
How Much Connection Time Do You Need in Jeddah?
TourYemen strongly recommends arriving in Jeddah at least one day before the Socotra flight.
This is safer than a same-day connection because it provides time for:
- International flight delays
- Immigration queues
- Baggage delays
- Terminal transfer
- Saudi entry procedures
- Yemenia check-in
- Schedule changes
A same-day self-transfer should only be considered when there is a very large buffer and all Saudi entry requirements have been confirmed.
Even a five- or six-hour connection may become risky if the inbound flight is delayed, immigration is busy, baggage arrives late, the terminal changes or Yemenia check-in closes.
An overnight stay is the recommended option.
Should You Stay Overnight in Jeddah After Returning?
Yes, when possible.
The Socotra flight may arrive later than scheduled, and regional or operational changes can affect the arrival time.
Booking an international departure on the same evening creates a risk of:
- Missing the international flight
- Losing a non-refundable ticket
- Paying for a last-minute replacement
- Needing an emergency hotel
- Waiting until the next international departure
A hotel night after returning to Jeddah provides valuable protection.
Socotra Flight Baggage Allowance
Checked Baggage
TourYemen's current working baggage allowance for the Jeddah-Socotra ticket is 30 kilograms of checked baggage.
However, baggage rules can vary by ticket and operating arrangement.
The allowance printed on the issued ticket is final.
Do not purchase specialist luggage or pack to the maximum weight until you have reviewed your ticket.
Cabin Baggage
The current cabin-baggage reference is one cabin bag weighing up to 7 kilograms.
The current published maximum dimensions are approximately 55 x 38 x 20 centimetres. The issued ticket and current airline rules remain final.
Keep important items in your cabin bag, including:
- Passport
- Yemenia ticket
- Socotra visa copy
- Saudi visa or entry document
- Medication
- Phone
- Chargers
- Camera equipment
- Essential clothing
- Travel-insurance information
Excess Baggage
Excess baggage is subject to:
- Aircraft capacity
- Airline approval
- Route rules
- Airport handling
- Additional charges
TourYemen cannot guarantee that excess baggage will be accepted.
Contact TourYemen in advance when traveling with heavy or oversized equipment.
Camera Equipment and Batteries
Socotra is popular with photographers, but camera equipment must remain within the baggage allowance.
Recommended precautions:
- Carry camera bodies and lenses in cabin baggage.
- Protect equipment from dust and impact.
- Carry spare memory cards.
- Keep important batteries in the cabin according to airline rules.
- Do not place valuable camera equipment in an unlocked checked bag.
- Confirm large tripod or specialist-case dimensions before travel.
Battery and power-bank rules can change. Follow the airline's current instructions.
Camping Equipment
TourYemen provides the camping equipment included in the selected Socotra program.
Travelers should not carry:
- Camping gas
- Fuel canisters
- Flammable liquids
- Fireworks
- Explosive materials
- Pressurized hazardous containers
Personal sleeping bags or lightweight hiking equipment can normally be packed within the standard allowance.
Can You Bring a Drone to Socotra?
Yes, but travelers planning to bring a drone must inform TourYemen before departure.
Under the current Jeddah Airport procedure, the drone must be declared upon arrival at the international terminal. It is temporarily held there and collected again at Terminal N before boarding the Yemenia Airways flight to Socotra.
After arriving at Socotra Airport, the traveler must obtain the required drone permit through customs.
The current Socotra drone permit fee is USD 100 per drone. The fee is paid directly to customs upon arrival at Socotra Airport and is not included in the TourYemen tour price.
Travelers should not conceal a drone inside checked or cabin baggage.
TourYemen must be informed in advance so that the traveler can receive the latest guidance about:
- Drone declaration at Jeddah Airport
- Temporary storage and collection at Terminal N
- Airline battery and power-bank requirements
- Customs procedures at Socotra Airport
- Payment of the USD 100 drone permit fee
- Local flying restrictions
- Protected areas and locations where drone use may be prohibited
Read the Socotra Drone Guide for complete information about permits, customs procedures, equipment rules and responsible drone use on the island.
Drone procedures, fees and flying restrictions can change, so TourYemen reconfirms the current process before every departure.
Check-in for the Socotra Flight
Travelers should arrive at the confirmed Jeddah departure terminal at least three hours before departure, unless TourYemen provides a different instruction.
Carry:
- Original passport
- Printed Yemenia ticket or itinerary
- Digital ticket copy
- Printed Socotra visa copy
- Digital visa copy
Make sure the name on the ticket matches the passport exactly.
A flight ticket cannot be transferred to another person.
Should You Print the Ticket and Visa?
Yes.
Carry both printed and digital copies of:
- Yemenia ticket
- Socotra visa
Mobile batteries can fail, and internet access may not be available when documents are requested.
A printed Socotra visa copy may be requested during check-in before the traveler is permitted to board.
What Happens If a Socotra Flight Changes?
Socotra schedules are more vulnerable to operational changes than routes with several daily alternatives.
A change may affect:
- Tour dates
- Visa dates
- International connections
- Return arrangements
TourYemen will notify travelers when it receives a confirmed schedule change and will coordinate the parts of the booking arranged directly through TourYemen.
Because the Socotra route has limited operating days, a change from Tuesday to Thursday, Thursday to Tuesday, or a change in the return stop can affect tour dates, hotel nights in Jeddah and onward international flights.
Travelers remain responsible for independently booked international flights, hotels and other services unless otherwise agreed in writing.
What Happens If Yemenia Cancels the Flight?
When Yemenia Airways cancels the flight, TourYemen follows the airline's cancellation and refund procedure.
Under TourYemen's current policy, an airline cancellation qualifies for a 100% refund of the Yemenia flight-ticket amount received from the airline.
The refund does not automatically cover:
- Separate international tickets
- Travel-insurance premiums
- Lost work time
- Personal expenses
Refund processing can take time because TourYemen must receive the funds or airline confirmation before completing the traveler's refund.
Full cancellation and refund conditions are available in the TourYemen Cancellation Policy.
What Happens If the Traveler Cancels?
Voluntary cancellation is different from airline cancellation.
The applicable deduction depends on:
- Time remaining before departure
- Airline fare rules
- Whether the ticket has been issued
- Whether the visa has already been processed
- TourYemen's cancellation policy
Travelers should review the TourYemen Cancellation Policy before making payment.
What Happens If You Miss the Socotra Flight?
A missed flight is especially serious because another service may not be available for several days.
When the traveler misses the flight because their separately booked international flight was delayed:
- The international airline may not protect the Yemenia ticket.
- Yemenia may treat the traveler as a no-show.
- A replacement seat may not be immediately available.
- The visa or tour dates may need to be adjusted.
- The traveler may need additional accommodation in Jeddah.
- The entire Socotra program may need to be postponed.
This is why TourYemen recommends arriving in Jeddah one day early.
Contact TourYemen immediately if a delay threatens the connection.
Travel Insurance for Socotra Flights
Travel insurance is strongly recommended, but travelers must check the policy carefully.
Some policies exclude or restrict coverage involving:
- Yemen
- Socotra
- Government travel warnings
- Political disruption
- Airspace closure
- Missed connections on separate tickets
- Airline insolvency
- Adventure activities
- Unscheduled accommodation
- Medical evacuation
Ask the insurer to confirm coverage in writing.
A generic policy saying worldwide may still exclude Yemen.
Arriving at Socotra Airport
Socotra International Airport is the island's commercial airport.
- IATA code: SCT
- ICAO code: OYSQ
- Time zone: UTC+3
Normal Arrival Process
The normal arrival sequence is:
- Leave the aircraft and enter the terminal.
- Proceed to immigration.
- Present your passport.
- Present the scanned visa copy if requested.
- Immigration verifies the approved entry information.
- The original visa or corresponding record is available through the airport process.
- Complete the entry formalities.
- Collect your checked baggage.
- Pass through customs.
- Meet the TourYemen team outside the arrival area.
The precise order may vary, and travelers should follow immigration and airport instructions.
Airport Facilities
Facilities at Socotra Airport are limited compared with large international airports.
Travelers should not depend on finding:
- A working ATM
- Card-payment facilities
- Reliable currency exchange
- A tourist SIM card
- Strong mobile data
- Extensive restaurants or shops
- International airline service desks
TourYemen recommends arriving with:
- Clean USD cash
- Offline document copies
- Emergency contact information
- Sufficient medication
- A charged phone
- A power bank within airline rules
Your TourYemen airport transfer is arranged as part of the confirmed tour.

TourYemen coordinates with the airline. Under the current TourYemen policy, the Yemenia ticket amount is refunded in full when the airline cancels, subject to airline processing.
What happens if my international flight arrives late?
